| New production line started up – production capacities doubled |
 |
Toho Tenax Europe officially started up a new production line in Oberbruch Industrial Park on 29th September and for an investment of 42.5 million euros is thus doubling its production capacity.
Toho Tenax Europe GmbH has been producing carbon fibres in Oberbruch Industrial Park for 20 years. On 29th September in the presence of about 260 invited guests and employees the company celebrated the start-up of the third production line at this location. Through the investment of 42.5 million euros 64 new jobs as well as numerous indirect jobs were created at the location.
"Through this investment we are consolidating our market position as the world’s second-largest producer of carbon fibres," says managing director Hans-Dieter Gölden. By a capacity increase from 1500 to 3400 tons per annum Toho Tenax Europe is equipped to cover the requirements of a strongly growing market. The president of the Japanese headquarters of Toho Tenax stressed, "The European market is strategically the Toho Group’s most important market." Also Toru Nagashima, president of Teijin Ltd., the Japanese parent of the Toho Tenax Group, paid tribute to the good results achieved by Toho Tenax in recent years and anticipates an exciting future in this market.
The high-performance fibre is used in plastic reinforcements and is outstanding for its lightness and high technical properties. In the next years the aviation industry, as well as numerous industrial applications in the windpower, automobile and offshore oil industry, will increasingly need carbon fibres. For example, about 30 tons of carbon-reinforced plastics or composites per jet are being used on the new Airbus A380. They make up about 20 % of the structural weight – and a large part of the hightech fibres for the Airbus comes from Oberbruch Industrial Park.
The new production building was built built alongside the existing production lines and is over 200 metres in length. Furthermore, during the 21 month-long building and installation period a new office building was put up and already occupied in December 2005. The sorting and packing system was replanned along ergometric lines and partly automated. The works laboratory was extended and fully renovated. A car new park, a fencing system and an own access gate were also erected.
