The Heinsberg district, which covers an area of 628 square kilometres and has a population of about a quarter of a million, has the double advantage of being rural whilst having excellent connections to the nearby conurbations, less than an hour’s drive away.
The region is home to highly productive and future-oriented companies from all spheres of business. Medium-sized industrial companies, service companies and commercial and craft industries are all located here. The open borders to neighbouring countries mean that the companies have a wide operational area and ready access to international markets.
Well-known colleges, universities and research institutes are located within a radius of sixty kilometres. As part of the Aachen technology region, the location benefits from the leading research programmes at the RWTH Aachen (the Rhenish-Westphalian Technical University). The presence of the RWTH Aachen, Aachen Polytechnic (FH Aachen), the Jülich Research Centre and the three Fraunhofer Institutes (ILT, IPT, IME) has resulted in a high concentration of research activity which very few regions worldwide can surpass. Only one per cent of the population of Germany – but ten per cent of this country’s scientists – live in the Aachen region.
The Heinsberg district is situated in one of the most important economic areas of western Europe, close to the borders of Germany, the Netherlands and Belgium. Three countries, three languages and five regions influence daily life here. A multi-faceted culture, a strong, extremely diverse and innovative economy with a rising number of international investment projects, as well as magnificent and still largely unspoilt natural surroundings are its undisputed trump cards. An intact living environment, an excellent infrastructure and a varied range of leisure activities make Heinsberg an attractive place to live. |
